The Preferences window provides access to various default settings that pertain to overall Neutrino functionality. Settings are grouped under a series of ‘tabs’ revealed by clicking on the buttons at the top of the Preferences window.
General
General preferences allows you to specify:
- Whether Neutrino checks for updates at start up
- Whether to scan for ID3 metadata tags when an MP3 is added to Neutrino
- Whether to ignore the enabled state of tracks for next/previous clicks
- Whether to resume playback from the last play
- Whether to automatically create Watched Folders for iPods and CDs
- Whether to ask before deleting playlists
- Whether to ask before deleting playlist items
- Whether to warn about missing files
- Gap between tracks
Appearance
Appearance preferences allow you to specify:
- Source text font size
- Playlist text font size
- The UI theme, either Leopard (default) or Obsidian
- The Source list background colour (Leopard theme only)
- The Inspector Window background colour and transparency
- Inspector resizing behaviour options
Audio Effects
Audio Effects preferences allow you to specify:
- Whether to treat effects as Globals when starting a new song
- Whether to reload the last Fx Audio Unit at next launch
iTunes
The iTunes preferences allows you to specify the location of the iTunes XML library file to use in the Neutrino iTunes Source list. Generally the default location (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml) is fine. You will only need to change this if you have a special location for your iTunes music library.
You may also choose not to scan iTunes for album artwork automatically.
Remote
Remote preferences allows you to specify:
- Whether to listen for infrared remote control signals
- Whether other applications are excluded from receiving remote signals while Neutrino is running
- Whether to listen for remote signals while Neutrino is running in the background
Advanced
Advanced preferences allows you to specify:
- Whether the Mini-Player floats above all other applications
- Whether the Inspector floats
- Whether to always show Videos and Visualizers in a floating window
- Dial customisation settings
- Whether transport and region sliders are continuous
- Whether to automatically cue loop out points as you drag the slider, and how many seconds to preroll before the new outpoint
Artwork
Artwork preferences allows you to specify:
- Whether to automatically grab artwork for videos when they are first played.
- Whether to automatically query iTunes for missing artwork on first play. If iTunes is not running, this will launch it each time you play a track.
You may also use the Verify Artwork Library... button to check existing artwork files and clean up any artwork that Neutrino has stored which does not refer to an existing track.
