iDisco is a fast, feature-rich and simple to use iTunes controller for Salling Clicker. With more than 80 commands we feel safe to say that iDisco pretty much does it all. Features include:

HOW TO INSTALL

1. Drag ”iDisco.cgz” to the left-side list (”Clicker Items”) in the first tab of Salling Clicker’s preference pane.

2. Click the second tab (”Phone Events”). Drag ”iDisco Phone Events Handler.cgz” to the list of phone event handlers. Make sure to uncheck Clicker’s default item ”Pause iTunes while on the phone”!

3. Hit the ”Apply” button.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE HOTKEYS?

Keys 1-9, 0 and * are Hotkeys. This means that you may assign any commands you like to these keys, even your own scripts (see Menu Extras). To assign a new command to a hotkey, open the More menu (Option key). Select Preferences. Select Hotkeys. Select a hotkey. Select a new command to assign to the hotkey.

The More menu is automatically populated with every command that is not assigned to a hotkey. If you prefer to populate the More menu with all commands, you may do so disabling the "More Menu" filtering option in the Preferences.

COMMAND LIST

iDisco has more than 80 commands. Most are quite self-explanatory and very simple to use. You’ll always find a brief description of each and every hotkey command in the Help menu from within iDisco itself. Here’s a more lenghty one:

• ADD TO FAVORITES: Add current track to a "Favorites" playlist. Of course, the tracks doesn't neccessarily have to be your favorites... Consider it your One-Click-Playlist. You can choose which playlist to use as your favorites playlist from the Preferences menu. Once you have selected a favorites playlist, the command will be known as "Add to [name of that playlist]".

• ADD TO PLAYLIST: Select which playlist to add the current track to.

• AIRTUNES (Menu Extra): See below.

• BROWSE MUSIC: Browse the music library hierarchically by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre or Composer. All browse menus can be reverse-sorted, and you can always choose to return to top at the end of a list.

The Playlist option is a quick and convenient way to browse a lenghty playlist hierarchically (eg. by Artist->Album->Song) rather than by track order (as is the case when using the "Playlists" command).

If the player is stopped, your selection will start playing right away. If iTunes is "Party Shuffling" or playing some other regular (not smart) playlist, you will be presented with various playing/queuing options. The options depend on what you have selected to play/queue. They are:

• Play Song Next in the current playlist

• Play Album(s) Next in the current playlist (starting with the selected song)

• Add Song to the current playlist

• Add Album(s) to the current playlist (starting with the selected song)

• Queue Song in the current playlist

• Queue Album(s) in the current playlist (starting with the selected song)

• Play Song’s Album. Duplicates all the tracks of selected track’s album to the current playlist. Useful when browsing by Song, or if you’ve found a song with a certain tag that doesn’tapply to the rest of the tracks of that album. Playback starts with the selected track, but the tracks are duplicated to the playlist in Album order.

• Add Song’s Album to the current playlist (starting with the selected song)

• Queue Song’s Album to the current playlist (starting with the selected song)

• CURRENT PLAYLIST: Browse the current playlist. If the current playlist is the library playlist, or if there is no active playlist, the "Browse Library" command is implemented

• DATE & TIME (Menu Extra): See below.

• DELETE PLAYLIST: Deletes the current playlist

• DELETE TRACK/ALBUM: Removes the current track from the current playlist (if any), then asks you if you want to delete the track in your library and move the file to the trash. Optionally applies to whole album.

• DELETE UPCOMING: Brings up a list of the ten next upcoming tracks. Select a track to remove it from the playlist

• ENABLE / DISABLE TIMER: Toggles the timer on/off. The timer can be set to put your Mac to sleep when iTunes stops playing, or to shut down the system. If you are the owner of the iTunes alarm clock utility iSleep, you may prefer to disable this command in the Preferences menu and use the included iSleep menu extra instead.

• TAGS & SETTINGS: Menu to edit/update/toggle the currentlly playing track’s ID3 tags and settings. Contains the following commands:

• Helper Scripts: A set of commands to automatically perform a variety of common editing tasks, namely:

• Capitalize Tags: Capitalize first letter of every word of all tags (eg. ”some track” of ”some album” by ”some artist” -> ”Some Track” of ”Some Album” by ”Some Artist”). Optionally applies to whole album.

• Uncapitalize Tags: Convert all tags to lowercase (eg. ”SOME TRACK” -> ”some track”). Optionally applies to whole album.

• Trim Title from Start: Deletes [x] characters from the beginning of the title tag (eg. ”01. Some Track” -> ”Some Track”). If the deleted part contains a track number, it will automatically be added to the track number tag. You’ll be given a preview of the new title before applying trim. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Trim Title from End: Same as above, but from end of title, and without the track number part. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Replace in Title: Replace a portion of the title tag with something else. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Replace in Artist: Replace a portion of the artist tag with something else.Optionally applies to whole album.

• Replace in Album: Replace a portion of the album tag with something else.Optionally applies to whole album.

• Fix Combined Tags: Automatically scans a combined title tag (eg. some or all of the following: ”01 – Some Track – Some Album – Some Artist – Maybe a comment”) for a delimiting character, tries to figure out what part is what (based upon the tags of the other tracks of the same album), and then extracts the tags. If there are no other tracks to compare with, you’ll be asked which portion is which. The ideal look is an album with combined title tags but proper artist and album tags. Portions of the tag that aren’t title, artist, album or track number is placed in the track’s comments. Optionally applies to whole album. Use with caution!

• Convert to V/A: Convert to Various Artists format (eg. ”Some Track” of ”Some Album” by ”Some Artist” -> ”Some Track – Some Artist” of ”Some Album” by ”Various Artists”.

• Title <-> Artist: Switch mixed-up tags

• Artist <-> Album: Switch mixed-up tags

• Album <-> Title: Switch mixed-up tags

• Title: Edit the title tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Artist: Edit the artist tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Album: Edit the album tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Year: Edit the year tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Composer: Edit the composer tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Grouping: Edit the grouping tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Grouping Presets: Select grouping to apply to track or album from list of presets (previously saved groupings). Select ”Clear Presets” to delete all previously saved groupings.

• Comment: Edit the comment tag of the currently playing track. Optionally applies to whole album. Optionally saves new comment as comment preset (see below)

• Comment Presets: Select comment to apply to track or album from list of presets (previously saved comments). Select ”Clear Presets” to delete all previously saved comments.

• Genre: Select genre from list of available genres. Optionally applies to whole album.

• EQ Preset: Select EQ preset from list of available presets. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Volume Adjustment: Slider to set volume adjustment. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Reset Play Count: Set played count to 0. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Enable / Disable Shufflable: Toggle current track’s shufflable status (eg. if it will appear in Party Shuffle or not). Requires iTunes 5 or later. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Enable / Disable Bookmarkable: Toggle current track’s bookmarkable status (eg. if it will start playing from beginning or where it was last left off). Requires iTunes 5 or later. Optionally applies to whole album.

• Enable / Disable Track: Toggle current track’s checkmark (disabled tracks are ignored by iTunes unless manually played). Optionally applies to whole album.

• EQUALIZER: Menu to control iTunes’ EQ window settings. To permanently assign a certain EQ preset to a specific track, use the "EQ Preset" command in the Tags & Settings menu.

• Enable / Disable EQ: Toggles iTunes EQ on/off

• (List of available EQ presets): Select which EQ preset to use.

• FADE TO UPCOMING: Brings up a list of the ten next upcoming tracks. Select the track you wish to play. The current track will fade out and your selection start playing. You may disable the fade effect in Preferences, where you can also set fade speed.

• FIND MUSIC: Search your music library for Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs, Composers or Genres. If the player is stopped, your selection will start playing right away. If iTunes is already playing, you will be presented with various playing/queuing options (see Browse Music).

• GET ARTWORK: Searches Slothradio.com for the album artwork of the currently playing song. If found artwork is dismissed by the user, or if no artwork is found, search is continued on Yahoo.com, first for medium sized images, and then, as a last resort if no image is found, for images of all sizes. You can choose to add the found artwork to the current track or the entire album. Requires an internet connection.

• GET LYRICS: Searches Seeklyrics.com, Getlyrics.com, Astraweb.com, AbsoluteLyrics.com, Oldielyrics.com and Leoslyrics.com for the lyrics of the current track and displays it on the screen of your handheld. Found lyrics are pasted into the lyrics window of the current track (requires iTunes 5 or later). If the current track already has lyrics, you’ll be prompted to continue. Requires an internet connection.

• GET MISSING TITLE: Searches FreeDB.org for the title of the current track. Useful for automizing the tiresome task of tagging manually ripped CDs, whose tracks usually are titled something in the manner of ”Track 01”, ”Track 02”, etc. For this command to work, the track must have proper Artist and Album tags as well as a track number. The track number may also be somewhere in the title tag (eg. ”Track 01” OR ”01 Unnamed”, etc). You’ll be prompted before the tag is updated. Requires an internet connection.

• iPOD CONTROL (Menu Extra): See below.

• iSLEEP CONTROL (Menu Extra): See below.

• MUSIC CALENDAR (Menu Extra): See below.

• MUSIC QUIZ: Music guessing game similar to the one found on your iPod.

• MUTE: Toggles sound on/off

• NEXT ALBUM: Fade to the next album in the current playlist. You may disable the fade effect in Preferences, where you can also set fade speed.

• NEXT CHAPTER: Skip to next chapter of an audiobook or a bookmarkable track.

• NEXT TRACK: Skip to next track. Hold to fast forward the current track. Disabled by default (since its already assigned to the navigator right key on most clients)

• PLAY RANDOM ALBUM: Fade to some album in your music library selected by chance. You may disable the fade effect in Preferences, where you can also set fade speed.

• PREFERENCES (MENU):

• Hotkeys: Lists the current hotkeys. Select the command you wish to replace, then select a new command from the command list. Select "Restore default" to delete your customized keypad setting and restore the default keypad setting

• Commands:

• Enabled: Select command to disable

• Disabled: Select command to enable

• More Menu: Enable Hoteky filtering to display only non-hotkey commands in the More Menu. Disable to populate the More menu with all available commands.

• Menu Extras:

• Add Command: Add menu extras

• Remove Command: Remove menu extras

• Auto Fade: By default, iDisco automatically fades out the current track when you run commands like Next Album in Playlist or Play Random Album, or perform a search. If you turn this option off, it won't. This also means that the Fade to Upcoming will Skip to Upcoming instead. Next Track, Previous Track or track selected in the current playlist will never trigger a fade out

• Update Play Count: When this option is enabled, iDisco will automatically update the Play Count and Last Played Date of all skipped tracks. These properties are normally only updated by iTunes when the entire song has been played. You may choose to update these properties if the skipped track has played more than 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 of the track length. Select "Always" to update all skipped tracks, "Never" to disable

• On Screen Display: Turn screen feedback on/off (on your Mac's display, that is).

• Live Update: Turns the live updating track info on your handheld's display on/off. Live Update will drain the battery of your handheld faster that if option is disabled

• Favorites: Select your Favorites playlist, eg. the playlist which to duplicate songs using the Add to Favorites command. The default name is "Favorites". Once changed, the name of this command will be updated accordingly (eg. ”Add to My Playlist”).

• Phone Call Handler: Select ”Pause iTunes” to suspend playback during phone calls, ”Soften Volume” to lower the listening volume during phone calls, or ”Do nothing” to disable phone call handler. If you choose to ”Soften Volume” you’ll be asked to select the decrease in volume percentage. To change the fade speed, or disable fade, use the ”Auto Fade” preference (see above).

• Background Image: Select either one of the two included images, or pick your own custom background image using the built-in filebrowser. Select ”None” to disable background image completely and get a white background. This preference only apperas on handhelds that support graphical images.

• Image Style: Select the keypad layout. ”Fill Screen” puts the scaled image in the background, ”Float Left” will disable the background image and only display thumbnail artwork to the left of the track info. ”Float w/ Icon” is the same as ”Float Left” but will display the iTunes icon if track has no artwork. ”Float w/ Niqu Icon” uses Niqu’s (vanillasoapdesign.com) alternative iTunes icon.

• Check for Updates: ”Automatically” checks for iDisco updates at launch. Use ”Manually (now)” to do a version check just this once.

• PREVIOUS ALBUM: Fade to the previous album in the current playlist. You may disable the fade effect in Preferences, where you can also set fade speed.

• PREVIOUS CHAPTER: Skip to previous chapter of an audiobook or a bookmarkable track.

• PREVIOUS TRACK: Skip to beginning of current track, or previous track if already at the beginning. Hold to rewind the current track. Disabled by default (since its already assigned to the navigator left key on most clients)

• RATE ALBUM: Slider to set the rating of the album of the current track

• RATE TRACK: Slider to set the rating of the current track

• REFRESH PLAYLIST: Delete all tracks in any smart playlist

• REPEAT MODE: Set the repeat state of the current playlist to Off / Repeat Song / Repeat Playlist

• PLAYLISTS: Select the playlist to play. If the selected playlist is "Library", the Browse Library command is implemented

• SHUFFLE PLAYLIST: Shakes up the current playlist real good

• TRACK INFO: Displays all available information about the current track, such as tags, play count, date added, shufflable, bookmarkable, volume adjustment, EQ preset, etc. If some entry isn’t displayed, it simply means there is no such tag or setting (eg. no Play Count means that the track has never been played). Use Edit Tags & Setting to edit the info displayed.

• TRACK’S ALBUM: Play the entire album of the current track. The currently playing track will be duplicated to the iDisco playlist along with the rest of the album, and playing will continue (almost) seemlessly from where we left off. Useful when Party Shuffling or playing a single track in some other playlist, instead of browsing for it’s album.

• VIEW LYRICS: Displays lyrics of currently playing track. If there are no lyrics, you’ll be prompted to do a Get Lyrics.

• VISUALIZER: Menu to toggle visuals, set visual size, toggle fullscreen, select visual plug-in.

TOO MANY COMMANDS? GET RID OF THEM!

iDisco has more than 80 commands. You may not need them all. Hence, iDisco lets you disable the ones you don’t feel inclined to use. To disable a command, simply go to the Preferences menu, select ”Commands”, ”Enabled” and then the command you want to disable. To re-enable a command, select ”Disabled” and then the command you want to enable. Once a command has been disabled, it will disappear from the More menu.

Tip 1: Disabled commands assigned to hotkeys will still work. This means that you may use the disabling function to simply get rid of a certain command from the More menu (whether More menu filtering is enabled or not), without ditching it completely.

Tip 2: Three commands are disabled by default: ”Next Track”, ”Previous Track” and ”Stop/Clean Up/Quit”. They are disabled since most users already have them assigned to the navigator and camera button on their clients. However, on some clients (such as the P900 et al) you can’t access the navigator in flip-closed mode, and the camera button isn’t programmable. So if you want to be able to skip/scan tracks, or stop or quit iTunes, in flip-closed mode you can simply enable these commands and assign them to some hotkeys to get that missing functionality. Further, you can disable them again after assigning them to hotkeys in order to not clog the More menu with unneccessary items (if More menu filtering is disabled).

TOO FEW COMMANDS? ADD SOME MORE!

iDisco is extensible through Menu Extras. This means that you can add as many action scripts as you like to the command list. To add an action, go to the Preferences menu and select "Add Menu Extra". This will bring up a list of every available action script category of Salling Clicker. Select the category containing the action script you wish to add to the command list, select the action script, and voila! A new menu called ”Extras” will now appear in the More menu. The ”Extras” menu will bring up a list of all available menu extras.

Tip: Each and every Menu Extra may also be assigned to Hotkeys. Or, if you prefer, you can assign the ”Extras” command itself to a hotkey.

Tip 2: The Menu Extras functionality of iDisco is also a convenient way to enable action scripts that are currently disabled, eg. scripts that aren’t neccessarilly useful within iDisco but that you, in the comfort of your sofa, just realized that you have disabled for some reason but now feel urged to use again. Instead of having to get up, open Clicker’s preference pane, locate the script, drag it to the menu list and apply your changes, you can simply add it as a Menu Extra, execute it and then (if you so wish) disable it again.

INCLUDED MENU EXTRAS

The download package comes with a few Menu Extras, to be installed if you like (see above). They are:

• AIRTUNES: Select which AirPort Express speaker(s) to use for audio output. Requires iTunes 7.1 or later.

• iPOD CONTROL: Menu to manage your (or somebody else’s...) iPod. For the import/export commands to work, your iPod preferences (in iTunes) must be set to "Manually manage songs and playlist".

• Import Track: Extract the currently playing track from an iPod to your Mac. The track is placed in a folder called ”iDisco Import” on your Desktop.

• Export Track: Copy the currently playing track from your Mac to an iPod.

• Import Playlist: Extract all the tracks of an iPod playlist to your Mac. The tracks are placed in a subfolder with the same name as the imported playlist in the ”iDisco Import” folder on your Desktop.

• Export Playlist: Copy any playlist from your Mac to an iPod.

• Clone iPod Playlist: Duplicates any iPod playlist on your computer. The tracks in the iPod playlist must be in your music library. A simple way to reproduce the On-The-Go playlist on your Mac.

• iSLEEP CONTROL: Menu to control the iTunes alarm clock shareware utility by Nousoft & Blazing Mouse Software. Please note that this command will automatically change your iSleep preferences to ”Put computer to sleep” & ”Wake up and start playing”!

• Status: Current iSleep status. Displays count-down, remaing time and scheduled wake time.

• Go to bed: Trigger count-down.

• Snooze: Pause iTunes for five minutes.

• Stop: Disable count-down.

• Sleep delay: Time selector widget to set sleep delay.

• Wake up time: Date & time selector widget to set wake up time.

• Wake up playlist: Select what music to wake up to.

• MUSIC CALENDAR: Simple implementation of the Unix command displays today’s events in the glamourous history of rock’n’roll. Requires the BSD subsystem.

• DATE & TIME: Displays the current date and time

CUSTOMIZING iDISCO

iDisco is fully customizable. Keys 1-9 + * are hotkeys, which means you can assign any commands you like to these keys - even your own scripts (see Menu Extras). You can even disable the commands you don’t need. The Preferences menu contains numerous settings to make iDisco behave just the way you want it to. Here you can control the iDisco Phone Events Handler; select your keypad layout and default background image, either one of the included images or your very own using the built-in filebrowser; choose to automatically fade out playing music, and - if so - how fast; automatically update the Play Count and Last Play Date of skipped tracks; toggle On Screen Display; select your one-click Favorites playlist; turn Live Updating off to preserve battery life, manually check for iDisco updates or turn on automatical version check on launch.

HOW DO I CONTROL THE iDISCO PHONE EVENTS HANDLER?

The iDisco Phone Events Handler is controlled from within iDisco itself (see the Preferences menu). This means you never have to edit the script manually to change your settings, as is the case with all default phone event handlers of Salling Clicker. In the Phone Events Handler preferences item, you can choose from time to time whether to pause iTunes while on the phone, soften the listening volume to any level of your choice, with or without fade effect, or simply disable it completely. Far more convenient than having to do it manually from Clicker’s preference pane.

WHERE AND WHAT IS THAT DARN ”MORE MENU”!?

The More menu is perhaps the most important aspect of iDisco. This is where all the commands that are not assigned to hotkeys are listed (or simply all commands if More menu filtering is disabled in Preferences). If you haven’t found it you’ve missed most of iDisco’s functionality. It is accessed by pressing the Options key (usually the top right key). Some users may miss it since the More menu is not labelled on the screen of all clients.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BACKGROUND IMAGE?

By default, iDisco displays a full-screen background image if the current track has no artwork. iDisco has two different background images. You can choose which one to use in the Preferences menu, where you can also choose the keypad style: if artwork/background image is to be displayed full-screen in the background or if a smaller image (artwork only or artwork and iTunes icon/ Niqu’s iTunes icon) should float to the left of the track info. You can also choose to disable background images completely.

Tip: If you prefer to use your very own background image, you can easily do so. Simply select ”Custom” in the ”Background image” preference, and then pick the image of your choice using the built-in filebrowser.

AUTOMIZED EDITING OF ID3 TAGS

In the Tags & Settings menu you will find a sub-menu called ”Helper Scripts”. These are provided to automize the tiresome task of fixing mixed-up, misspelled or somehow incorrect ID3 tags of tracks in your music library. Please refer to the section above for a detailed description of their usage. Use with caution!

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN THERE’S A NEW VERSION AVAILABLE?

Go to Preferences, select ”Version Check”, and then ”Manually (Now)” to check if your version of iDisco is up to date. Select ”Automatically” to automatically check for updates on launch.

GETTING HELP FROM WITHIN iDISCO

You can get a brief description of every command that is currently assigned to a key on your client (eg. the programmable hotkeys, the navigator keys, the camera button, the slider keys, etc) by pressing the Help or # key. The rest of the commands that are listed in the More menu have no help page. Once you assign a new command to a hotkey, the help menu is updated automatically updated with the corresponding help page.
